Ronald Wright vs Jason Papillion

On the evening of February 2, 2002, at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida, Ronald "Winky" Wright defended his IBF World Super-welterweight title against Jason Papillion in a bout that showcased the champion's dominant boxing skills. Promoted by Square Ring Inc and broadcast by HBO Sports, the fight highlighted Wright's skillset during his second reign as a super-welterweight champion.

Ronald Wright, weighing in at 153¼ lbs, entered the fight with an impressive record of 42 wins, 3 losses, and no draws. His opponent, Jason Papillion from Broussard, Louisiana, tipped the scales at 149½ lbs and came into the match with a record of 34 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw. Despite his commendable track record, Papillion faced an uphill battle against a seasoned and highly skilled champion.

From the opening bell, Wright established control with his elusive southpaw stance, which has consistently posed problems for his opponents. Papillion struggled to find an effective strategy against Wright's defensive skills and sharp counter-punching.
