Privacy policy

The short version: we collect what we need to run your account and the league, we do not sell your data, and you can ask us to see it or delete it at any time.

1. Who we are

Boxing Only (boxingonly.net) is a boxing website with fight schedules, results, boxer profiles, a history archive and a free pick league. In this policy “we” means Boxing Only, run by Andy Farr, who is the controller of the personal data described here.

We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), registration number ZC274512.

You can reach us through the contact form. Choose “Privacy request” for anything about your data.

2. What we collect

If you sign in. Our sign-in provider collects your email address and, if you use Google, your name and profile picture. We keep a copy of your email address and picture link in our own database, together with a league name you choose. Other players can see your league name, points and recent results on league tables. They cannot see your email address.

What you do in the league. The picks you make, your points, and the leagues you create or join, including a league's name and invite code. The members of a private league can see each other's league names and points.

If you contact us or subscribe. The name, email address and message you send through the contact form. For the Thursday email, your email address, your approximate country (from your connection) and the time you confirmed. We only email you after you click the confirmation link we send.

Automatically. When you visit, our hosting and security providers receive your IP address, browser and device type and the pages you request, in the normal course of serving a website. To limit spam, when you use the contact form or the email sign-up we also keep a one-way scrambled version of your IP address (it cannot be turned back into the address) and, for contact messages, your browser type. Your browser's time zone is read on your own device to choose how odds are shown. It is not sent to us.

We do not ask for payment details. If we introduce paid features, payments will be handled by Stripe and we will never see or store your full card number.

3. How we use it, and why we are allowed to

  • To run your account and the league (picks, scores, league tables, private leagues). This is needed to provide the service you asked for.
  • To reply to you. We answer messages because you have asked us to, and it is in both our interests.
  • To send email you subscribed to. We do this with your consent, and you can unsubscribe in one click from any email.
  • To keep the site secure and to block spam, scraping and cheating. This is our legitimate interest in running a safe service.
  • To meet legal duties, for example if a court or regulator requires us to.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it to profile you for advertising.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use only strictly necessary cookies: the cookies our sign-in provider sets to keep you signed in, and any cookie Cloudflare sets to tell real visitors from bots. These do not need your consent.

We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics. It does not use cookies or follow you from site to site. It records which pages are viewed, the country, the type of device and browser, and where the visit came from, and tells visitors apart using a short-lived anonymous code made from technical details of the request, not from your name or email address. We use it only to see which pages are useful.

We do not use advertising cookies. If that changes, we will ask for your consent first and update this page.

Pages in our history archive can embed a YouTube video. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced address (youtube-nocookie.com), but loading the player still sends your IP address to Google, and playing a video may set cookies from Google.

5. Who we share data with

We use these providers to run the site. They process data on our behalf and only as we instruct.

We may also share data when the law requires it, or if the business is sold, in which case the buyer must honour this policy.

6. Data sent outside the UK

Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. We choose providers that use recognised safeguards for those transfers, such as the UK-US data bridge or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum with standard contractual clauses.

7. How long we keep it

  • Your account and picks: for as long as your account is open. If you delete your account, or ask us to, we delete your personal details, your picks and your place in every league within 30 days. Any private league you run is deleted with it.
  • Email subscriptions: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep your address on a do-not-email list so that we never email you again, unless you ask us to erase it.
  • Contact messages: for 12 months after you send them, then we delete them. Replies in our email inbox are deleted on the same schedule.
  • Server logs: kept by our hosting and security providers for the short periods they set.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • see the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data deleted in certain circumstances;
  • object to us using your data for our legitimate interests, or restrict how we use it;
  • receive your data in a format you can move to another service;
  • withdraw consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing.

To use any of these, contact us and choose “Privacy request”. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

9. Age

Making picks and joining the league is for people aged 18 or over. You confirm this by ticking a box when you choose your league name, and we record when you did. We do not knowingly keep accounts for anyone younger. Reading the site is open to everyone.

10. Security

Data travels over encrypted connections. We choose providers that encrypt stored data, and access to our admin tools is limited to the people who run the site. No service on the internet is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your rights at risk we will tell you and the ICO as the law requires.

11. Artificial intelligence

We use AI tools to help with our content, including fight previews and reports, and to edit and sometimes create images. The House picks are not made by AI. We do not give AI tools your personal data and we do not use your data to train AI systems.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, such as adding advertising, we will update this page and the date at the top, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
