Undisputed world middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins had already matched the record for middleweight world title defences set by legendary Argentine Carlos Monzon, but if he could reach fifteen, he would be the one that future champions would have to attempt to better.

Saint Louis, Missouri's Carl Daniels, briefly the holder of the WBA world super-welterweight title back in 1995 was the final hurdle for Hopkins to overcome to reach his goal. The two met at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania and Hopkins put on a clinic, winning every round until Daniel's corner had seen enough and retired their man at the end of the 10th round.

Hopkins world middleweight title defences record ended at twenty.
