Ronald Wright and Shane Mosley faced each other in a highly anticipated rematch on November 20, 2004, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The fight was promoted by Gary Shaw Productions and aired on HBO World Championship Boxing. The titles at stake were the WBC and WBA World Super-welterweight titles, as well as The Ring Magazine Junior Middleweight Championship, all of which were being defended for the first time by Wright.
Mosley came into the fight with a record of 39-3-0, while Wright had a record of 47-3-0. Both fighters weighed in at 154 lbs. The referee for the fight was Joe Cortez, and the judges were Hubert Earle, Duane Ford, and Tom Kaczmarek. Wright ultimately beat Mosley by a majority decision, with Earle scoring the fight 114-114, while Ford and Kaczmarek scored it 115-113 in favor of Wright.
The fight was similar to the first encounter between the two, with Wright controlling the action from the outside. However, Mosley was able to land well inside against Wright and the fight was still in doubt going into the final round. Punch stats showed Wright landing 273 punches to Mosley's 154, with Wright's edge coming in the jab, where he landed 138 to Mosley's 46. However, Mosley seemed to land the harder punches.
Wright had previously defeated Mosley on March 13, 2004, to unify the WBA, WBC, and IBF 154-pound titles. However, he was stripped of the IBF title on April 19, 2004, because he agreed to have a rematch with Mosley instead of defending the title against No. 1 contender Kassim Ouma.
