On Saturday, 29th August 2015, Shane Mosley faced Ricardo Mayorga in a non-title 12-round super-middleweight bout at the Forum in Inglewood, California. The fight was a rematch of their September 2008 Super-welterweight meeting which ended in a final-round knockout for Mosley. The time of the stoppage on that occasion was 2:59.
Promoted by GoBox Promotions and aired on USA Integrated Sports Media. Referee Raul Caiz Jr. officiated the rematch. At the time, Mosley's record stood at 47-9-1, while Mayorga's record was 31-8-1. Weighing in at 159¾ lbs, Mosley was lighter than his opponent, Mayorga, who weighed 165½ lbs.
In the lead-up to the fight, both fighters expressed confidence in their abilities. Papa Jack Mosley, Shane's 70-year-old father and trainer, even flexed his own bicep and remarked that he was in better shape. Despite the age gap between the two fighters, with Mosley being 43 and Mayorga 41, they were prepared to face off in a super welterweight bout.
As the fight began, Mosley showcased his superior boxing skills and experience, controlling the early rounds. However, in the fifth frame, Mosley started to slow down considerably, and his age began to show. Despite this, he maintained control of the fight.
In the sixth round, Mayorga landed some solid shots, but it was not enough to overcome the gulf in class between the two fighters. Mosley's brilliance was on full display, as he demonstrated his superior technique and ring intelligence.
In the final moments of the sixth round, Mosley closed things out in style. He unleashed a massive combination, capped off by a left hook and right, that left Mayorga unable to continue. Referee Raul Caiz Jr. called the fight, declaring Shane Mosley the winner by knockout at 2:59 in round 6.
With this victory, Shane Mosley improved his record to 48-9-1, while Ricardo Mayorga's record fell to 31-9-1.
