Fight Summary
On Saturday, September 12th, 1992, the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, hosted the WBA World Super-middleweight Title bout between the defending champion Victor Cordoba and the challenger Michael Nunn. The fight was promoted by Don King Productions and aired on Showtime Championship Boxing PPV. It was Cordoba's third defense of his title, having won it in April 1991 against Christophe Tiozzo.
Nunn, a former two-time IBF middleweight champion, had moved up in weight to challenge Cordoba for the title. The fight went the full twelve rounds, with Nunn ultimately winning by split decision. The judges' scorecards were Patricia Morse Jarman 114-112, Ove Ovesen 112-114, and Fernando Viso 113-114.
The referee for the fight was Mills Lane. Cordoba, with a record of 19-2-3, had been considered the underdog against Nunn, who boasted a record of 37-1-0. However, Cordoba had proven himself as a formidable opponent, having defended his title twice before this fight.
Despite Cordoba's efforts, it was Nunn who emerged victorious, taking the WBA World Super-middleweight Title from Cordoba. This was not the end of their rivalry, however, as they would meet again in a direct rematch four-and-a-half months later.
