On Saturday 26th February 1994, boxing fans were treated to a thrilling contest between Michael Nunn and Steve Little for the WBA World Super-middleweight title. The fight took place at the Earls Court Exhibition Hall in Kensington, London, and was promoted by Don King and Frank Warren. Aired on Showtime Championship Boxing, this was Nunn's fifth defense of his title.
Michael Nunn, who had a professional record of 42-1-0, was considered the favorite going into the fight against Steve Little, who had a record of 21-13-2.
The fight was intense and closely contested, with both fighters landing significant blows. However, it was Steve Little who emerged victorious, winning by a unanimous decision. The judges' scorecards were Luis Rivera 112-115, Orlando Sam 115-113, Philippe Verbeke 114-116. Referee John Coyle oversaw the bout.
Steve Little, a native of Reading, Pennsylvania, had a brief reign as the WBA World Super-middleweight champion, losing the belt in his first defense to Frankie Liles, losing a decision. Little's victory over Nunn remains the highlight of his career.
It is worth noting that on the same bill, WBC World Super-middleweight champion Nigel Benn made the fifth defense of his title against fellow Brit Henry Wharton, winning by unanimous decision. The plan was to match Benn versus Nunn for both titles if both won their respective bouts.
