On Saturday, February 10th, 2007, the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, hosted the vacant WBC Interim World Welterweight match between former champions Shane Mosley and Luis Collazo. The bout was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and aired on HBO World Championship Boxing. Mosley and Collazo both entered the ring weighing 147 lbs, with Mosley holding a record of 43-4-0 and Collazo boasting a record of 27-2-0.

The contest, officiated by referee Kenny Bayless, was hard-fought throughout. Mosley showed that he could withstand Collazo's punching power. Collazo, hailing from Riverview, Florida, showcased his own power, delivering a hard left hand that momentarily stopped Mosley in his tracks.

Despite the brief setback, Mosley soon resumed his attack, digging hard to the body and head of Collazo in an effort to take control of the fight. Collazo responded in kind, but Mosley's experience and skill began to wear on the younger fighter as the rounds progressed.

In the eleventh round, Mosley landed a powerful right hook, knocking Collazo down to the canvas. Collazo managed to regain his footing and continued to battle it out with Mosley until the final bell.

After twelve gruelling rounds, the judges awarded a unanimous decision victory to Shane Mosley. Adalaide Byrd scored the bout 119-108, Duane Ford 118-109, and Nobuaki Uratani 118-109, all in favor of Mosley. With this win, Mosley claimed the vacant WBC Interim World Welterweight Title
