On Saturday 21st July 2001, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas played host to the WBC World Welterweight Title match between defending champion Shane Mosley and challenger Adrian Stone. Promoted by Cedric Kushner Productions and aired on HBO World Championship Boxing, the match was expected to be a thrilling display of skill and power. With a stellar record of 37-0-0, Mosley entered the ring as the favorite, while Stone, hailing from Bristol, England, boasted a record of 30-3-2.
Both fighters weighed in at an even 147 pounds. The first two rounds saw Mosley and Stone sizing each other up and trading calculated blows, with Mosley appearing to be the aggressor. As they entered the third round, it was evident that Mosley was looking for an opportunity to make a decisive statement.
That moment came at 2:01 in the third round when Mosley unleashed a vicious left hook that landed cleanly on Stone's jaw. Stone, seemingly still reeling from the forceful strike, was then caught off guard by a powerful right hand that he never saw coming. The combination of these two devastating blows proved to be too much for the Englishman.
Stone crumpled to the canvas, clearly knocked out by Mosley's impeccable one-two punch. Referee Jay Nady quickly stepped in, ending the fight and confirming Mosley's victory by knockout. This marked Mosley's third successful defense of the WBC World Welterweight Title, further solidifying his position as one of the top fighters in the division.
