Holmes and LeDoux met at The Metropolitan Sports Center in Bloomington, Minnesota, a stone's throw from the challengers home in Andover. A crowd of 6,491 were in attendance.
Holmes dropped LeDoux with a crisp right hand in the 6th round and although he survived the round he was stopped in the 7th round due to suffering a cut and swollen left eye that left referee Davey Pearl with no other option but to stop the fight at 2:05 of the round.
This fight was Holmes 7th defence of the WBC world heavyweight title he won from Ken Norton.
