WBC World Super-lightweight Champion Kostya Tszyu made the first defence of his title which he won from Mexican Miguel Angel Gonzalez four months earlier in Miami Florida, against Ahmed Santos.
Santos hailed from Phoenix, Arizona by way of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico and was 26-years-old. Santos came to win and gave the champion a run for his money even though Tszyu always threatened to end matters at any time with his superior firepower.
The end came in the 8th round, and after two knockdowns referee, Frank Cappuccino ended the fight at 0:36 of the round.
The win paved the way for Tszyu to face the WBC No 1 contender Julio Cesar Chavez.
