WBA World Featherweight champion Eusebio Pedroza made the twelfth defence of his title against Guyana's Pat Ford at the Gimnasio Nuevo Panama in Panama City. Ford had challenged WBC champion, Salvador Sanchez, in his last bout, losing by a majority decision over 15 rounds at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas in September 1980.

They say styles make fights and on this occasion, Ford struggled to get to grips with the slick Panamanian and was knocked out in the 13th round. He later blamed weight loss on the defeat.

Pedroza lost his title to Ireland's Barry McGuigan in June 1985 in London. He was attempting to make it to 20 successful defences.

Pedroza sadly passed away on the 1st of March 2019, one day before his 63rd birthday.
