Dwight Muhammad Qawi vs Matthew Saad Muhammad II

On August 7, 1982, the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, hosted a highly anticipated rematch between Dwight Muhammad Qawi and Matthew Saad Muhammad for the WBC World Light Heavyweight Title. This bout was televised on HBO and refereed by Carlos Padilla.

Dwight Muhammad Qawi, then 29 years old, entered the ring with a record of 17-1-1 and weighed in at 174½ lbs. His opponent, Matthew Saad Muhammad, 32 years old at the time, had a record of 32-4-2 and weighed 175 lbs.

The first encounter between these two fighters took place on December 19, 1981, when Qawi stopped Saad Muhammad in the 10th round to capture the WBC light heavyweight belt. In the rematch, Qawi continued his dominance, stopping Saad Muhammad again, this time in the 6th round.

Qawi's aggressive and crouching ring style proved too much for Saad Muhammad, as he controlled the fight from the early rounds. A combination from Qawi sent Saad Muhammad down in the third round, setting the stage for the eventual stoppage.
