On Saturday, November 4, 2006, the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, hosted a boxing match between Carlos Manuel Baldomir and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight was billed as "Pretty Risky" and was for the WBC and The Ring welterweight titles, as well as the IBO and IBA welterweight titles. Baldomir was defending his WBC title for the second time, while Mayweather was defending his IBO and IBA titles for the first time.
Mayweather was the clear favorite going into the fight, with odds of 4-1 in his favor. He lived up to his reputation as a skilled and accurate puncher, landing 131 of his 258 power shots (51%) and 199 of his 458 total punches (43%). In contrast, Baldomir only managed to connect on 67 of his 562 power punches (12%) and 79 of his 670 total punches (12%).
The fight was not well received by the crowd of 9,427 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, with many booing the lack of action and leaving before the fight ended. Despite this, the fight generated 325,000 pay-per-view buys and $16,300,000 in revenue. Mayweather earned $8 million for the fight, while Baldomir was paid $1.6 million, both of which were career highs for the fighters at the time.
In the end, Mayweather won the fight by a unanimous decision. Baldomir put up a valiant effort, but it was not enough to overcome Mayweather's skill and accuracy in the ring. The win marked Mayweather's 36th straight victory.
