Serhii Bohachuk, a Los Angeles-based Ukrainian, performed masterfully to defeat late replacement Brian Mendoza and win the WBC interim super welterweight title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Bohachuk, who improved to 24-1 with 23 knockouts, won by unanimous decision. This marked the first time in his career that he won a fight without stopping his opponent.

Mendoza, now 22-4 with 16 KOs, took the fight on short notice after Bohachuk's original opponent, Sebastian Fundora, was elevated to the main event against Tim Tszyu. Despite the loss, Mendoza displayed a granite chin and determination throughout the 12-round contest.

Bohachuk applied steady pressure from the opening bell, forcing Mendoza to fight off the back foot. The Ukrainian consistently found success with his right hand, landing it around Mendoza's guard as he pressed forward.

Although Mendoza had moments of success, particularly with his right uppercut and left hook, Bohachuk's relentless aggression and superior work rate proved to be the difference. The Ukrainian's ability to trap Mendoza in the corners and unleash heavy shots on the inside took its toll on the Vegas-based fighter.

Despite Mendoza's best efforts, including a spirited rally in the 11th round, during which he landed a clean right uppercut followed by a series of left hooks, Bohachuk remained composed and stuck to his game plan.

Ultimately, the judges scored the bout 118-110 and 117-111 (twice) in favour of Bohachuk, who dedicated his victory to his fellow Ukrainians enduring hardships due to the ongoing war with Russia.

With this impressive win, Bohachuk positions himself as a top contender in the super welterweight division and a potential future opponent for the winner of the Tszyu-Fundora main event.

For Mendoza, the loss is a setback, but his valiant effort on short notice and his ability to withstand Bohachuk's power throughout the 12 rounds are testaments to his toughness and resilience.
