Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz Dethrones Rolando Romero, Wins WBA Junior Welterweight Title by 8th Round TKO

Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz captured the WBA junior welterweight title with a dominant performance, stopping the previously unbeaten Rolando Romero in the eighth round at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Cruz, hailing from Mexico City, came out aggressively from the opening bell, unleashing a barrage of overhand rights and left hooks that had Romero reeling. The 26-year-old challenger's relentless pressure never allowed Romero to find his rhythm, as chants of "Pitbull" echoed throughout the arena.

In the first round, a left hook from Cruz buckled Romero's legs, leaving the champion in serious trouble. Although Romero survived the round, he appeared visibly shaken as he returned to his corner.

Cruz continued to ramp up the offense as the fight progressed, targeting Romero's body and head with powerful combinations. Romero attempted to keep Cruz at bay with his jab, but the challenger's unrelenting attack proved too much to handle.

In the fifth round, referee Thomas Taylor deducted a point from Romero for excessive holding, further compounding the champion's woes. Cruz seized the opportunity, landing a devastating right uppercut that left Romero on unsteady legs.

Despite showing tremendous heart and bravely firing back, Romero could not turn the tide. After a doctor's examination allowed the champion to come out for the eighth round, Cruz wasted no time closing the show. Just 56 seconds into the round, a series of unanswered lefts and rights prompted the referee to stop the contest.

With the victory, Cruz improves to 26-2-1 (18 KOs) and cements his status as a force to be reckoned with in the junior welterweight division. In his post-fight interview, the newly crowned champion called out Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis, signalling his intentions to take on the best in the weight class.

Romero's loss marks the second defeat of his professional career, as he falls to 15-2 (13 KOs). Despite the setback, the 27-year-old showed courage in the face of Cruz's onslaught and will undoubtedly look to bounce back.
