Rolando Romero stops Anthony Yigit in seven rounds

Rolando Romero made the first defence of his Interim WBA world lightweight title when he stopped Sweden's  Anthony Yigit in the 7th round at The AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The title was only at stake for Romero after Yigit weighed in 5.2lbs over the 135lb lightweight limit at the weigh-in on Friday.

Yigit, a 29-year-old from Stockholm, Sweden, boxes out of a neat southpaw style that has seen him beaten only once before, and that was against Ivan Baranchyk in the World Boxing Super Series in October 2018, but against the lighter Romero, Yigit found himself struggling with the 25-year-old Las Vegas residence's power.

When Romero dropped Yigit near the end of the 5th round, the Swede fell to the canvas and pitched face first when trying to get up. The bell sounded as Yigit wobbled on shaky legs, but if it hadn't, referee Rafael Ramos would surely have had to rescue the badly hurt Yigit.

Yigit survived Romero's onrush at the start of the 6th round but was feeling Romero's power punches. It was only a matter of time.

In the 7th round, Romero dropped Yitit twice, the second time with a left hook and referee Ramos waved it off at 1:54 of the round.
