Isaac Cruz Gonzalez had a tough night against Argentinan Lightweight contender Jose Matias Romero in their WBA lightweight title eliminator at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The unbeaten Romero couldn't use his height and reach advantages to good use and grabbed hold of the 5ft 4 Inch Mexican every time he got inside his reach, leading to multiple warnings from referee Harvey Dock.
Romero stopped the exessive holding after his corner warned him that the referee would dock him points which lead to him using his boxing skills and decent combination punching to give the stocky Gonzalez some tough rounds.
Gonzalez was the one making the fight and deserved the unanimous decision victory that saw him take his record to 21-1-1and a shot at the WBA World Title.
