Hamzah Sheeraz, also known as “The British Tommy Hearns,” produced a punch-perfect display to sweep aside previously undefeated Dmytro Mytrofanov in just three minutes and 35 seconds at the Stadion Wroclaw, Poland. The fight was broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+.
Sheeraz, who hails from England, entered the fight with an impressive record of 17-0-0. It had been suggested that Mytrofanov would represent the toughest test of Sheeraz’s career to date and could cause problems for the Englishman. But the 24-year-old made a mockery of those predictions by dropping Mytrofanov four times en route to this stoppage in the second round.
Sheeraz made a very sharp start behind his long, straight jab, which he speared down with speed and power onto his far shorter opponent. And it was a straight left hand that dropped Mytrofanov first after just 40 seconds. The Ukrainian rose to his feet in time to beat the count, and Sheeraz stayed composed as he continued to stalk his opponent around the ring. The second knockdown came with a minute left in the first round, and it was his long jab that did the damage once more. Again, Mytrofanov rose to his feet, but he touched down briefly for a third-time moments later as Sheeraz poured on the pressure. It looked like a first-round stoppage was coming, but Mytrofanov managed to make it until the end of the round. But the finish came after just 35 seconds of the restart when Sheeraz countered a lazy jab with a sharp right hand, and the referee waved it off immediately. The official time of the stoppage was 35 seconds in round two.
