Dillian Whyte gets revenge on Alexander Povetkin with fourth round Ko

Fight report
Boxing Only · Mar 27, 2021
Dillian Whyte reclaimed the Interim WBC World Heavyweight Title with an emphatic revenge win over Alexander Povetkin who had risen from two 4th round knockdowns in their August 2020 showdown to flatten the Brixton man with probably the best left-uppercut he ever threw.
They say revenge is sweet, but Whyte knows that his 4th round knockout of the 41-year-old Russian now means an eighteen-month wait for the opportunity to challenge either Tryson Fury or Anthony Joshua for world honours.
Povetkin looked a shadow of the heavyweight that he once was in his rematch with Whyte, staged at the Europa Point Sports Complex in Gibraltar, and let's hope he decides to hang his gloves up and move on to the next stage of his life because he has been a loyal servant to boxing, a man that never turned down a challenge.
Whyte looked at his best from the first bell and dominated throughout until in the 4th round he ended matters with Povetkin rising from a knockdown and referee Victor Loughlin calling a halt at 2:39 of the round as the towel came in from the Russian corner.
