Mike "The Bodysnatcher" McCallum, born December 7, 1956, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a retired professional boxer renowned for exceptional body-punching prowess and technical skill. Standing 6 feet tall with a 74.4-inch reach, McCallum fought with an orthodox stance and achieved world titles in three weight divisions: super welterweight, middleweight, and light heavyweight.
McCallum made his professional debut on January 14, 1981, at the Silver Slipper in Las Vegas, securing a fourth-round TKO victory over Rigoberto Lopez. He quickly ascended the ranks, capturing the vacant WBA super welterweight title on October 19, 1984, by defeating Sean Mannion. McCallum defended this title six times by knockout, including notable victories over Julian Jackson and Donald Curry.
In 1988, McCallum moved up to middleweight, facing Sumbu Kalambay for the WBA title, but suffered his first professional loss via unanimous decision. Undeterred, he claimed the vacant WBA middleweight title in 1989 by defeating Herol Graham and successfully defended it against challengers such as Steve Collins and Michael Watson. His bouts with James Toney in 1991 and 1992 for the IBF middleweight title resulted in a draw and a majority decision loss, respectively, which were closely contested.
Transitioning to light heavyweight, McCallum captured the WBC title on July 23, 1994, by outpointing Jeff Harding. He later faced formidable opponents like Fabrice Tiozzo and Roy Jones Jr., showcasing his durability and skill even in the twilight of his career. McCallum's final professional fight occurred on February 22, 1997, against James Toney at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, resulting in a unanimous decision loss after 12 rounds.
