On Saturday, September 12th, 1992, in front of a packed Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Mexico's undefeated WBC Super-lightweight champion, Julio Cesar Chavez, put his title on the line against Puerto Rico's Hector Camacho. Under the promotion of Don King Productions and aired on KingVision Pay-per-view, Chavez entered the ring boasting an impressive 81-0-0 record, while Camacho entered the fight with an impressive 40-1-0 record.
The fight started as a tactical affair. Chavez, renowned for his relentless pressure and vicious body punches, found himself in a tactical duel with the slick and elusive Camacho, a fleet-footed southpaw known for his defensive acumen. Both fighters weighed in at the super-lightweight limit of 140 lbs, emphasizing the fairness and intensity of the bout.
However, as the bout progressed, the tide turned in favor of Chavez. By imposing his characteristic aggressive style, Chavez was able to wear down Camacho, turning what had begun as a closely contested match into a lopsided affair. The Mexican champion began to methodically break down his Puerto Rican opponent, transforming the latter half of the fight into an exhibition of Chavez's power and ring dominance.
Camacho, known for his resilience and tenacity, was reduced to survival mode as he was forced to endure a relentless barrage from Chavez. Despite the Puerto Rican's best efforts to protect himself and land counterpunches, Chavez's aggression and precision proved too overwhelming. By the final bell, Camacho's face was a bloodied mess, a testament to Chavez's punishing power and unforgiving style.
The fight ended with a unanimous decision in favor of Chavez, further solidifying his undefeated record. Judges Carol Castellano, Harry Gibbs, and Dalby Shirley scored the bout 119-110, 120-107, and 117-111, respectively, all in favor of the Mexican champion. This victory marked the ninth successful defense of Chavez's WBC Super-lightweight title.
