Dennis Andries vs Tony Sibson

On September 10, 1986, Dennis Andries defended his WBC World Light Heavyweight title and the British Light Heavyweight title against Tony Sibson at the Alexandra Pavilion in Muswell Hill, London. The bout, promoted by Don King Productions and Sports Network, was televised on ITV Sport and featured two contrasting fighters. Andries, known for his rugged and relentless style, entered the ring at 174½ lbs with a record of 27-6-2, while Sibson, a former middleweight title challenger with an extensive record of 54-5-1, weighed in at 172 lbs.

Andries, defending his titles for the first time since capturing the WBC belt from J.B. Williamson earlier in the year, faced a well-regarded but naturally smaller opponent in Sibson. Despite Sibson's success as a middleweight, the step up to light heavyweight was a significant challenge, especially against a physically imposing champion like Andries.

The fight began with Andries asserting his strength and power, forcing Sibson onto the back foot. The difference in size and physicality was evident from the outset, as Andries used his trademark aggression to dictate the pace. Sibson, known for his technical skills and durability, attempted to counter with sharp combinations and movement, but the power disparity made it difficult for him to establish control.

Andries intensified his pressure as the rounds progressed, wearing down the smaller Sibson with thudding shots to the body and head. Referee Sid Nathan closely monitored the action as Andries' relentless attack began to overwhelm the challenger. Sibson's attempts to turn the tide were spirited but ultimately ineffective against the champion's strength and stamina.

The contest reached its conclusion in the ninth round when Andries' sustained assault left Sibson unable to continue. The referee stopped the fight, awarding Andries a TKO victory. 

The result underscored Andries' physical assets at light heavyweight and highlighted the challenge for Sibson in competing against a bigger, stronger opponent in a higher weight class.
