On 28th March 1998, the Boardwalk Convention Center in Atlantic City hosted the highly-anticipated Charles Brewer vs Herol Graham IBF World Super Middleweight Title fight. Promoted by Panix Promotions, the fight was sharing top billing with Lennox Lewis's exciting WBC World Heavyweight title battle against Shannon Briggs. Charles Brewer entered the ring with a record of 30-5-0, while Herol Graham's record stood at 48-5-0.
Graham, who weighed in at 167lbs, got off to a good start, using his speed and footwork to evade Brewer's powerful punches. In the third round, Brewer was knocked down twice, sending shockwaves through the crowd. Despite this setback, Brewer showed remarkable resilience, getting back up and battling on.
As the fight wore on, Brewer's relentless pressure began to take its toll on Graham. Despite Graham's best efforts, Brewer continued to press forward, landing powerful shots and wearing down his opponent. By the tenth round, Graham was visibly tiring, and the referee, Earl Morton, stepped in to stop the fight while Graham was being punished on the ropes.
Brewer's performance earned him a 10th round TKO victory and the 2nd successful title defence of his IBF World Super Middleweight Title. The judges' scores reflected how well-matched these two were, with the fight being scored level ( Al DeVito 84-85 | Roy Francis 86-86 | George Hill 86-84) at the time of the stoppage.
