On Saturday, 23rd November 2002, the highly anticipated rematch took place between Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This non-title, 10-round super-lightweight bout was promoted by Main Events. Gatti, with a record of 34-6-0, and Ward, with a record of 38-11-0, both weighed in at 142 lbs. The referee was  Earl Morton.

The first fight in their iconic trilogy had been awarded Ring Magazine's Fight of the Year, and expectations were high for this rematch. Arturo Gatti, hailing from Jersey City, New Jersey, by way of Montreal, Canada, sought to avenge his previous loss to Micky Ward, a resident of Lowell, Massachusetts.

Of course, both were now familiar with each other so there was no real feeling out process to go through.

Gatti was able to secure a win against Ward by unanimous decision, with judges George Hill, Joseph Pasquale, and Luis Rivera scoring the match 98-91, 98-90, and 98-91, respectively.
