On Saturday, 24th July 2004, Arturo Gatti and Leonard Dorin faced one another at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The event was promoted by Main Events and featured the WBC World Super-lightweight Title, with Gatti defending the title for the first time. The match was refereed by Randy Neumann and was broadcasted live on HBO World Championship Boxing.
Arturo Gatti, hailing from Montreal, Canada, entered the ring with a record of 37 wins, 6 losses, and no draws. His opponent, Leonard Dorin, also from Montreal, Canada by way of Ploiesti, Romania, boasted an undefeated record of 22 wins, no losses, and 1 draw. Both fighters weighed in at 139 pounds, with Gatti at 139¼ lbs and Dorin at 139 lbs.
In the first round, both fighters came out strong, demonstrating their respective strengths. Dorin's aggressive style was met by Gatti's more tactical approach.
However, in the second round, the tide turned in favor of Gatti. Dorin's nose began to bleed as Gatti found success landing powerful punches. Despite a moment of concern when Gatti grimaced after landing a right uppercut, he pushed through any potential injury and continued his offensive.
In the second round, Arturo Gatti landed a devastating left hook to Leonard Dorin's body, sending him to the canvas. Unable to recover, Dorin was counted out at 2:55 by referee Randy Neumann, resulting in a knockout victory for Gatti.
