Why the House picks Gavin Gwynne
I’m going for the upset here. Barrett still has the quicker combinations, but I think there’s been a decline in how consistently he imposes himself. Gwynne looks to be enjoying an Indian summer, and this feels like the sort of fight where his engine can outweigh the cleaner technique.
Barrett’s advantage is his hand speed. He can score in bursts, but he needs to move after punching. If he hangs about admiring his work, Gwynne will close the gap and make him fight longer than he wants to.
Gwynne’s strength is sustained pressure. He must cut off the exits, work the body and keep Barrett occupied between those sharp combinations. His weakness is the clean shots he can take coming forward, so the pressure needs to stay organised.
I reckon Barrett starts well, then Gwynne’s persistence begins to tell. I’m picking Gavin Gwynne on points, winning enough of the later rounds through pressure and work rate.
