In a high-stakes super featherweight clash, Zelfa Barrett secured a potentially career-defining victory by stopping a resurgent Jordan Gill in the 10th round to claim the WBA International title and move closer to a world championship opportunity.

The Manchester Arena witnessed a closely contested and technically proficient battle between the fighters. Barrett's slick defensive skills and quick feet were on display, while Gill applied consistent pressure and targeted Barrett's body to slow him down.

As the fight progressed, both men had their moments, with Barrett landing crisp uppercuts and left hooks to the body and Gill enjoying success with his jab and body shots. The bout appeared to be hanging in the balance as the 10th round began, with both corners expressing satisfaction with their fighters' performances.

However, the fight took a dramatic turn less than a minute into the 10th when Barrett connected with a devastating left to Gill's body, sending him crashing to the canvas. Gill bravely rose to his feet at the count of five, but Barrett pounced, targeting Gill's torso with a relentless two-fisted assault.

Despite Gill's valiant efforts to fight back, Barrett found the opening for another left to the body, dropping Gill a second time. Once again, Gill climbed to his feet, determined to continue, but Barrett unleashed two overhand rights, prompting referee John Latham to intervene and halt the contest at 2:44 of the 10th round.

With the victory, Barrett improves his record to 31-2 (17 KOs), while Gill falls to 28-3-1 (9 KOs). Promoter Eddie Hearn praised Gill's performance and improvement under trainer Ben Davison, stating, "Don't give up because I think he's improved so much under Ben Davison. The performance against Conlan was really good, and the performance tonight through nine rounds... It was anybody's fight."

As for Barrett's future, Hearn suggested potential matchups with Lamont Roach or Joe Cordina. A confident Barrett declared, "Anybody can get it," signalling his readiness to take on all comers as he inches closer to a world title shot.
