Why the House picks Rhys Edwards
This is a cracking domestic match-up between two fighters who've got plenty to prove. Rhys Edwards is a tidy, disciplined boxer who relies on movement, timing and picking his punches rather than brute strength. Lee McGregor is a different animal altogether. He's aggressive, heavy-handed and likes to make opponents uncomfortable. On paper, it's the sort of contest that could go either way.
I've always rated McGregor's ability to work inside, particularly his body punching, but those stoppage defeats against Nathaniel Collins and Michael Gomez Jr worry me. He's taken some punishment, and you have to wonder what he's got left. Edwards isn't a big puncher, but he's clever enough to exploit a fighter who comes forward without protecting himself properly.
Edwards needs to keep his jab working, turn McGregor and avoid getting drawn into prolonged exchanges. His defeat against Peter McGrail showed his limitations against a technically superior opponent, but I don't see McGregor presenting the same problems.
I reckon McGregor will have some success early, particularly downstairs, but Edwards' movement, cleaner punching and better discipline should gradually take control.
I'm taking Rhys Edwards to win a competitive but clear unanimous decision.
