Adam Azim vs Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela
IBF World Super Lightweight Title Eliminator · Copper Box Arena, Hackney Wick, London · DAZN
Why the House picks Adam Azim
I see this as a good test for Azim. Valenzuela knows how to make a talented, up-and-coming contender work, and treating him like another opponent to blast out would be asking for trouble. His jab troubled Lindolfo Delgado, and he carries a useful left hook when an opponent gets careless coming into range. Azim needs to earn his openings.
Azim’s advantage is how quickly he can turn a single opening into a combination. Against Claggett, he mixed sharp punches upstairs with damaging body work. I’d want that same variety here, followed by a step off to the side. Hanging about after the last punch gives Valenzuela his chance to answer. The Mexican can box, but allowing Azim to dictate when the exchanges happen would leave him struggling to match the younger man’s speed.
I’m picking Azim by unanimous decision. Valenzuela has enough experience and offensive threat to demand patience. I expect Azim to win through quicker combinations and better movement, provided he stays disciplined when the crowd wants a finish. This is one where boxing sensibly will tell us more than trying to look spectacular.
