Takuma Inoue showcased his resilience and skill to retain his WBA championship against a determined Sho Ishida in a thrilling bantamweight title bout at the Tokyo Dome. The fight began with a shocking moment, as Ishida landed a powerful left hand that sent Inoue to the canvas in the opening round. Despite this early setback, the 28-year-old champion refused to let the knockdown define the fight.

Inoue, now 20-1 with 5 KOs, made the necessary adjustments and began to assert his dominance in the third round. By forcing Ishida to fight at close quarters, Inoue neutralized his opponent's height and reach advantage. The champion's right uppercut became a key weapon, repeatedly finding its mark as Ishida willingly engaged in inside fighting.

As the bout progressed, Inoue's superior timing and control became evident. Even when Ishida managed to create some distance, Inoue effectively countered with left hooks and right hands. The challenger's face began showing signs of Inoue's handiwork, blood flowing from his nose.

Despite Ishida's best efforts to turn the tide in the later rounds, Inoue remained composed and confident. The 32-year-old challenger, now 34-4 with 17 KOs, had moments of success in the ninth round, causing swelling under Inoue's right eye. However, Inoue's right uppercut continued to be a constant threat.

The final rounds were a display of grit and determination from both fighters. The Tokyo Dome crowd roared in appreciation as Inoue and Ishida left it all in the ring. Ultimately, the judges' scorecards reflected Inoue's dominance, with Kazunobu Asao and Pinit Prayadsab scoring the fight 118-109 and Michiaki Someya scoring 116-111, favouring the champion.

This victory marks Inoue's second successful defence of the WBA bantamweight title, which he won by defeating Liborio Solis after his brother, Naoya, vacated the belt. Inoue's only professional loss came in 2019 against Frenchman Nordine Oubaali.

Sho Ishida, the WBA's No. 1 contender, had previously challenged for a super flyweight title against Kal Yafai in Wales in 2017, losing by decision. Despite entering this fight on a five-fight winning streak, Ishida was outclassed by the determined and skilled Takuma Inoue.

As Inoue continues establishing himself as a force in the bantamweight division, boxing fans eagerly await his next move. With this impressive victory over a formidable challenger, Takuma Inoue has once again proven his worth as a champion and a fighter to watch in the years to come.
