Sam Eggington Edges Lee Cutler via Technical Decision

In a gritty and closely contested bout at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, Sam Eggington emerged victorious over Lee Cutler via unanimous technical decision. The fight, scheduled for ten rounds, was halted at the start of the ninth due to a cut sustained by Eggington from an accidental clash of heads, leading to the judges' scorecards determining the outcome. The scores read 87-85, 90-83, and 87-85 in favour of Eggington, who claimed the WBC International Silver super-welterweight title in the process.

From the opening bell, both fighters engaged in a high-paced contest. Cutler, the 29-year-old from Bournemouth, sought to establish his jab early, while Eggington, the seasoned 31-year-old from Smethwick, targeted the body with his own jab. The first round saw Cutler landing a clean left hook on the inside, with Eggington responding by pushing him onto the ropes with a left hook of his own.

The second round intensified as both boxers increased their punch volume. Eggington's jab continued to find its mark, and a brief exchange led to a small cut over his right eye, likely from an accidental head clash. Eggington, now with a record of 36 wins and 9 losses, expressed respect for Cutler, stating, "This man's no joke... Lee Cutler is cut from the same cloth as me and he will come back."
