Luis Nery returned to the win column with a dominant performance against Kyonosuke Kameda, securing a seventh-round stoppage in their bout in Tijuana, Mexico. Nery's victory came after a systematic beatdown of Kameda, showing no residue from his traumatic meeting with division king, Naoya Inoue, nine months ago at The Tokyo Dome.
From the opening round, Nery established his dominance, finding a home for his left hand. Kameda's defence proved inadequate against Nery's relentless attack, with uppercuts and straight lefts landing frequently. Despite a brief interruption when Nery tripped, he maintained his aggressive approach. Kameda improved his ground in the second and third rounds, but it would be short-lived.
The fourth round saw Nery unleash his offensive arsenal, visibly hurting Kameda. While Kameda attempted to respond with their right hand, he was unable to deter Nery's assault. Kameda showed more movement in the fifth round, but Nery quickly closed the gap, landing damaging blows. By the end of the round, Kameda was on unsteady legs. A cut over Kameda's right eye required examination in the sixth round, but the fight continued. Nery continued his attack, trapping Kameda in a corner and opening a second cut over his left eye.
In the seventh round, Nery maintained a disciplined approach, landing jabs and following up with a series of power punches that sent Kameda into the corner. A left to the body set up the first knockdown of the fight.
Nery continued his assault after Kameda beat the count, landing a right hook that weakened Kameda's knees, causing him to slump to the canvas, prompting the referee to wave off the contest at 2:23 of the round. Nery improves to (36-2, 28 KOs) while Kameda drops to (15-4-2, 9 KOs).
On the undercard, Cuban heavyweight contender, Frank Sanchez came back from his first career defeat to Agit Kabayel with an easy 3rd round Tko of Ramon Olivas Echeverria. Also, Local middleweight contender, Carlos Ocampo continued his comeback from his defeat to Tim Tszyu in a WBO 154lb title shot, with a 2nd round Tko of Luis Enrique Montelongo.
