Juan Francisco Estrada made a triumphant return to the win column on June 14 in Hermosillo, defeating fellow Mexican Karim Arce Lugo by unanimous decision over 10 rounds. Estrada, once a multi-division world champion, demonstrated his technical mastery and veteran savvy against the younger challenger, earning scores of 100–87, 99–88, and 98–89.
From the opening bell, the stylistic contrast was evident. Estrada, known for a hybrid boxer-puncher approach, utilized a precise jab, lateral movement, and timely counters. Arce Lugo, who entered with a record of 22-3-1 and 8 knockouts, moved forward with a high-energy, pressure-heavy style but struggled to find consistent success against Estrada's angles and footwork. The veteran's sharp left hook and straight right repeatedly thwarted Arce's advances.
As rounds progressed, Estrada seized complete control. In the middle rounds, he ramped up accuracy, landing stiff combinations that disrupted Arce's rhythm. Though Arce's durability was tested, he showcased resilience, refusing to wilt despite bleeding and swelling around the eyes, an impressive display given Estrada's world-class power.
Estrada's most dominant moments arrived in the final round, landing a forceful salvo upstairs, flooring Arce with a clean right hand. As Arce rose, more power shots backed him into a corner, and a second knockdown followed. Yet even after rising, Arce was met with another straight right that put him on his knee a third time before the bell, an exclamation point on Estrada's superiority. Those three late knockdowns cemented the decision and underscored Estrada's finishing instincts.
This victory marked Estrada's first official win in over two years, his last coming in December 2022 in the rubber match against Roman "Chocolatito" González. With a record now standing at 45-4, including 28 KOs, he has shown that he remains an elite 118-pound force. As for Arce Lugo, his record fell to 22-4-1, and the loss marked his second in three fights, a reminder that step-up fights carry unforgiving consequences.
