Lineal junior bantamweight champion Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs) secured his most impressive stoppage victory to date, halting veteran Pedro Guevara (42-5-1, 22 KOs) at 2:47 of round three at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center on April 6, 2024.
The heavily favored Rodriguez (-1800) methodically broke down his previously never-stopped opponent. The opening round showcased Rodriguez's technical superiority. His distance control ensured Guevara struggled to land any meaningful shots. Jesse increased his offensive output in round two, finding success with lead right hooks while setting up his uppercut.
Despite Guevara's attempts to work the body, the 35-year-old Mexican challenger remained largely defensive. The finish came via two knockdowns in the third round. A straight left dropped Guevara first, though he quickly regained his feet. Shortly after, Rodriguez landed a decisive right uppercut in the corner that sent Guevara to his back, prompting referee Ricky Gonzalez to halt the contest.
Post-fight, Rodriguez expressed interest in unification bouts and welcomed a potential matchup with Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez, stating, "I'm ready for it. If a unification doesn't come, why not?"
The victory marked Rodriguez's first stoppage of a fighter who had previously only lost by decision, all four of Guevara's prior defeats coming via split or majority verdict.
