Callum Johnson vs Emil Markic ends in second round Ko for Johnson

In his first fight since re-signing with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, Callum Johnson put on his usual entertaining act and blasted out Bosnian Emil Markic in the 2nd round of a short-lived war staged at the famous East London boxing venue, York Hall in Bethnal Green, and shown live on BT Sports.

Johnson had to come back from near disaster to gain the victory after Markic landed with a huge counter right hook that rocked the Englishman to his boots in the 1st round. Johnson recovered and came back to finish the round on top.

The former world title challenger from Boston, Lincolnshire came out to finish things at the start of the 2nd round and although Markic lasted until 2:37 of the round, the writing was on the wall.

Hopefully, Johnson can be steered into a second world title shot, promoter Warren has always had strong ties to the WBO, and their 175lb champion, Joe Smith Jr would represent a 50/50 chance to the 33-year-old Johnson of becoming a world title holder even though the bout would likely happen in the USA.
