Breyon Gorham continued his rise through the super lightweight ranks by earning a unanimous decision victory over Yomar Alamo over ten rounds on September 20, 2025, at the Bayou Music Center in Houston. The bout featured Gorham entering undefeated and carrying high expectations as he defended the IBF North American Super Lightweight title. The judges scored the fight 99-91, 99-91, and 98-92 in Gorham’s favour.
Going into the fight, Gorham held a record of 20-0 with 16 knockouts, showing a high KO percentage and youthful energy. Alamo came with a record of 22-4-1, including 13 knockout wins. He was the more experienced campaigner, having been in the ring with several higher-profile opponents. The clash was billed as the main event of OTX 16 and was contested with the IBF North American belt on the line.
From round one, Gorham displayed patience and adjusted to Alamo’s awkward, shifting style. Alamo used movement, unorthodox angles, and bounced around the ring, mixing aggression with evasion, which made him a tricky target. But Gorham’s jab, power to the body, and especially his left hook began to edge rounds. In the second round, Gorham backed Alamo to the ropes and landed hard hooks and a big right hand. By the third round, he was working consistently to both head and body when openings appeared. While Alamo had moments—solid jabs, bursts of combination punching—it was Gorham who controlled the tempo from mid-fight onwards.
A turning point came in the fifth round when Gorham trapped Alamo in a corner and delivered a string of clean shots, including to the body. That seemed to wilt Alamo’s resolve a little. In the eighth, a right hand to Alamo’s belly sent him back to the ropes and visibly affected him. From there on, Gorham kept up pressure, stayed disciplined, avoided exchanges where Alamo could set traps with angles, and continued mixing power upstairs with shots to the body. Though no knockdown was scored, the accumulation of damage and clearer scoring shots gave Gorham all ten rounds on two judges’ cards, and nearly all on the third.
The crowd in Houston, Gorham’s home base, gave energy to his performance. As the hometown favourite, he appeared comfortable when applying pressure and dealing with Alamo’s evasiveness. Alamo’s experience and resilience won him respect, especially in the early and mid rounds, where he forced Gorham to work for every clean shot. However, Gorham’s composure, sharper work, and more consistent power meant the challenger could not mount a sustained comeback. With this win, Gorham continues his steady rise through the super lightweight ranks.
