Brandon Moore successfully defended his USBA heavyweight title by defeating DeAndre Savage via a unanimous decision after ten rounds Friday night at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. Judges scored the fight 100-89, 99-90, and 100-89 in favour of Moore.
From the opening bell, it was clear that Moore aimed to control the fight from range. Using a sharp, consistent jab, he kept Savage—a dangerous knockout artist making his first trip past the early rounds—at bay for much of the fight. Savage pressed forward, tried to cut off the ring, and load up on power shots, but Moore’s timing and disciplined defence frustrated many of those attempts. Moore gradually turned up the pressure after the early rounds. In rounds four through six, he began mixing in more chopping rights, notably when Savage’s guard dropped or when he lunged in recklessly. Savage showed heart but often left himself open, especially to Moore’s right hand.
The critical turning point came in Round Seven. Moore landed a clean right-hand that dropped Savage for an eight-count. Savage rose, but the knockdown effectively sealed the momentum. From that point on, Moore’s dominance became more pronounced, as Savage’s output dropped and Moore controlled both distance and tempo. Savage had a few flashes—some left hooks in Round Seven, moments of aggression, attempts to land big shots—but he was never able to sustain pressure, nor to match Moore’s accuracy or defensive awareness. In the last two rounds, Moore was content to use the jab, avoid unnecessary exchanges, and keep Savage from mounting any serious threat.
With this win, Brandon Moore moves to 19-1 with 10 knockouts, handing Savage his first professional loss. Savage is now 10-1 with all previous wins by KO. This was never a barn-burner, but it was a high-quality heavyweight performance: tactical, composed, and well-executed by Moore. For Savage, it exposed a need to add more sustained combinations and tighten his defence if he’s to trouble the elite. Moore, meanwhile, has reinforced his place among contenders in the U.S. heavyweight scene.
