Biography

Wilhelm "Willi" Fischer, nicknamed "De Ox," was a German professional boxer born in Frankfurt on August 26, 1972. At 6'3", Fischer competed as a heavyweight from 1995 to 2009.

As an amateur, Fischer represented Germany at the 1992 Summer Olympics before turning professional in July 1995. He quickly compiled an undefeated record of 11-0-1 and captured the German International Heavyweight title. In October 1996, he suffered his first professional loss, a unanimous decision defeat against fellow unbeaten German Kim Weber, in a battle for the vacant Germany BDB Heavyweight title.

Undeterred, Fischer bounced back with ten consecutive wins, improving his record to 21-1-1. This impressive run earned him a shot at the WBO Heavyweight title against champion Herbie Hide in September 1998. Despite a valiant effort, Fischer was stopped via TKO in the second round.

Following the loss to Hide, Fischer won his next four bouts before facing Kim Weber in a rematch for the German International (BDB) Heavyweight title, this time emerging victorious via majority decision. In May 2000, he fought Timo Hoffmann for his title and Hoffmann's Germany BDB Heavyweight title but lost by unanimous decision.

Fischer continued to compete primarily in Germany, going 11-2 in his last 13 fights, with the two losses coming in bouts for the Germany BDB Heavyweight title in 2003 and 2004. He retired from boxing in 2009 with a professional record of 37 wins (24 by knockout), six losses, and one draw.
