Seung Soon Lee, a South Korean welterweight boxer, carved out a respectable career in the ring from 1979 to 1989. Born on December 7, 1961, in Nonsan, South Korea, Lee's journey in professional boxing began with an inauspicious start. On November 21, 1979, at the Munhwa Gymnasium in Seoul, he suffered a points loss in his debut against Hyung Duk Choi in a four-round contest. However, this initial setback did not deter the young fighter, who would go on to become a formidable force in the Asian boxing scene.

Lee's career gained momentum in the early 1980s, culminating in his capture of the South Korean Welterweight Title on August 21, 1982. He wrested the belt from Young Sub Suh with a sixth-round knockout victory, a testament to his growing power and skill. Lee's reign as national champion was impressive, successfully defending his title four times against tough domestic opposition. His defences included victories over Jae Yong Park, Young Kil Jung (twice), and Jung Won Park, showcasing his ability to adapt to different fighting styles and maintain his dominance in the Korean welterweight division.

The orthodox fighter, standing at 5'10" with a 68.1-inch reach, took a significant step in his career when he made his U.S. debut on July 12, 1984. At the iconic Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, Lee stopped Sergio Sanchez in the third round, announcing his arrival on the international stage. This victory paved the way for bigger opportunities and demonstrated Lee's ability to perform outside his home country.

Lee's career reached new heights 1987 when he captured the OPBF (Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation) Welterweight Title. On February 15, at the Chiak Gymnasium in Wonju, he knocked out Jun Suk Hwang in the sixth round to claim the prestigious regional belt. However, his reign was short-lived, as he lost the title in his first defence to Young Kil Jung, a fighter he had previously defeated twice, in a unanimous decision.

The pinnacle of Lee's career came on February 4, 1989, when he challenged for the vacant WBA World Welterweight Title at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. His opponent was the formidable Mark Breland, a 1984 Olympic gold medalist with a stellar amateur record. Unfortunately for Lee, the bout was over in a flash, with Breland securing a first-round TKO victory in just 54 seconds. This quick defeat, while disappointing, placed Lee in the record books for being part of one of the shortest world title fights in the welterweight division's history.

Lee's professional journey came full circle in his final bout on August 13, 1989. In a rematch against Jun Suk Hwang, the man he had defeated for the OPBF title two years earlier, Lee lost a 10-round decision at the Sunin Gymnasium in Incheon. With this bout, Seung Soon Lee hung up his gloves, concluding a decade-long career that saw him compete at the highest levels of the sport. His final professional record stood at 31 wins (23 by knockout), 4 losses, and no draws, a testament to his skill, power, and the respect he earned in the welterweight division during the 1980s.
