Livingstone Bramble, known by his nickname Ras-I Alujah Bramble, is a retired professional boxer from Saint Kitts and Nevis, although he was born in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Born on September 3, 1960, Bramble's career spanned an impressive 22 years and six months, concluding on June 27, 2003.
Bramble made his professional debut on October 16, 1980, against Jesus Serrano, winning via a first-round TKO. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a world champion at the age of 23 by defeating Ray Mancini for the WBA lightweight title in a thrilling 14th-round stoppage on June 1, 1984. This victory showcased Bramble's skill and ability to perform under pressure against top-tier opponents.
Bramble faced numerous world-class fighters throughout his career, including notable bouts against Ray Mancini, Edwin Rosario, Freddie Pendleton, Oba Carr, Charles Murray, Roger Mayweather, and Kostya Tszyu. His fight against Mancini is particularly memorable, as it marked his first world title win. Bramble's career was also highlighted by a draw against Darryl Tyson and a loss to Rafael Ruelas, demonstrating his willingness to face tough competition.
Bramble's career was a tale of two halves: the early part full of success at the highest level and the second with more losses than wins. But no one had an easy night against Bramble; he simply loved to fight.
Bramble's final professional outing was a unanimous decision loss to Armando Robles on June 27, 2003, at the age of 42. By the end of his career, he had amassed a record of 40-26-3, with 25 of those wins coming by way of knockout. Two of these knockout victories were in world title fights, a testament to his ability to deliver under the brightest lights. Despite the ups and downs, Bramble's legacy as a former lightweight world champion and his contributions to the sport remain significant.
