On Saturday, February 16, 1985, a highly anticipated rematch between Ray Mancini and Livingstone Bramble took place at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada. Promoted by Main Events, the bout featured Bramble's first defense of the WBA World Lightweight Title he had won from Mancini in their previous meeting. Mancini, hailing from Youngstown, Ohio, entered the ring with a record of 29-2-0, while Bramble, from Saint Kitts and Nevis, boasted a record of 22-1-1. At the official weigh-in, Mancini tipped the scales at 135 lbs and Bramble weighed in at 133¾ lbs.
