Ema Kozin, affectionately dubbed "The Princess," has carved out a distinguished path in professional boxing since her debut in 2016. Born on December 2, 1998, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Kozin has showcased remarkable talent and tenacity across three weight divisions. Her career, so far spanning over eight years, reflects her journey from a promising rookie to a world champion.
Kozin made her professional debut on September 24, 2016, at the Tabor Arena in Maribor, Slovenia, where she faced Ina Milohanic. The bout marked the beginning of an impressive unbeaten streak that would last for 22 fights, a testament to her early promise. This winning run included a variety of opponents, each helping Kozin refine her skills and build a reputation as a fighter to watch.
A pivotal moment in Kozin's early career came in her 11th professional fight when she took on Florence Muthoni for the WBF world middleweight title. On October 14, 2017, Kozin secured a unanimous decision victory, adding the WBF world middleweight title to her resume and signalling her arrival on the international boxing scene.
Kozin's technical prowess and strategic mindset were further highlighted in a split decision draw against Irais Hernandez in September 2018. This result, though not a victory, demonstrated her ability to compete at a high level and remain unbeaten in a closely contested bout.
The boxer's talents continued to shine as she defended her WBF crown and accumulated other titles. A notable defence took place on October 6, 2019, at Arena Stozice in Ljubljana, where she defeated Maria Lindberg via unanimous decision. This victory further solidified her status as a technical and tactical fighter capable of defending her titles against high-quality opposition.
Kozin lost her unbeaten record on February 5, 2022, at The Cardiff International Arena, Cardiff, Wales, to Claressa Shields, who was defending her WBC & IBF world middleweight crowns. Shields won a wide unanimous decision, but Kozin proved that only the world's very best could defeat her.
In her first fight after losing for the first time, Kozin received the chance to challenge for the vacant WBF world super welterweight title against Hungarian Szilvia Szabados in Germany, winning by 7th round Tko. A year later, she made the first defence of the title against another Hungarian, Timea Belik, this time winning by unanimous decision.
Kozin's career reached new heights on November 18, 2023, when she travelled to Manchester Arena in Manchester, England, to challenge the WBC and WBO world super welterweight champion Hannah Rankin. In a thrilling encounter, Kozin won the titles on a split decision, marking one of the most significant achievements of her career.
