On February 13, 1982, the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted a historic bout as Ossie Ocasio faced Robbie Williams for the inaugural WBA World Cruiserweight Title. This fight marked a significant moment in both fighters' careers as they transitioned from the heavyweight division to compete in the newly established cruiserweight class. Ocasio, a seasoned Puerto Rican boxer with a record of 15-3-1, had previously challenged Larry Holmes for the WBC heavyweight title in 1979, losing by a 7th-round technical knockout. His experience against top heavyweights, including back-to-back wins over Jimmy Young, positioned him as a strong contender for the cruiserweight title.

Robbie Williams, from Durban, South Africa, entered the fight with a less impressive record of 13-5-1. However, he proved a formidable opponent on the night, pushing Ocasio to a closely contested split decision.
