On Saturday, December 11th, 2004, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Miguel Cotto defended his WBO World Super-lightweight Title for the first time against Randall Bailey. The fight was promoted by K2 Promotions and aired on HBO Pay-per-view. Cotto, hailing from Caguas, Puerto Rico, entered the ring with an impressive record of 21-0-0, while Bailey, from Miami, Florida, held a record of 28-4-0.
Both fighters weighed in close to the 140 lbs limit, with Cotto at 140 lbs and Bailey at 139½ lbs. Referee Norm Budden presided over the match.
