On Saturday, December 11th, 2004, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Miguel Cotto defended his WBO World Super-lightweight Title for the first time against Randall Bailey. The fight was promoted by K2 Promotions and aired on HBO Pay-per-view. Cotto, hailing from Caguas, Puerto Rico, entered the ring with an impressive record of 21-0-0, while Bailey, from Miami, Florida, held a record of 28-4-0.

Both fighters weighed in close to the 140 lbs limit, with Cotto at 140 lbs and Bailey at 139½ lbs. Referee Norm Budden presided over the match.

Throughout the fight, Cotto demonstrated his superior skill and power, putting Bailey on his hands and knees with a right hand in the second round. The action continued, with Bailey struggling to recover from the early knockdown, ultimately being knocked down twice during the contest.

By the sixth round, Cotto's dominance in the ring was clear. At the 1:39 mark, the fight was stopped as a result of cuts sustained by Bailey. Cotto emerged victorious with a TKO, successfully defending his WBO World Super-lightweight Title.
