Attempting to win a World Light-heavyweight Title for the third time, the 32-year-old Marvin Johnson from Indianapolis started his vacant WBA World Light-heavyweight Title fight with Trinidad's Leslie Stewart at such a fast pace that you wondered if it might suit the 25-year-old fighter from the Caribean more.
Southpaw Johnson got stiff opposition from Stewart for as long as the fight lasted but, the younger man picked up cuts to both eyes and the referee stopped the fight at 0:56 of the 7th round. Stewart had survived a doctors inspection during the break between the 6th and 7th rounds but Johnson piled the pressure on until Stewart could no longer see the punches coming.
