On October 26, 2002, Manny Pacquiao defended his International Boxing Federation Super Bantamweight Title against mandatory challenger Prayat Sawaingam at The Rizal Memorial Colleges Gym in Davao City. Fortstone Sports Promotions served as the fight promoter.
Pacquiao, standing at 168 cm, was the shorter fighter in the ring compared to Sawaingam's height of 170 cm. However, the two boxers had the same reach of 170 cm.
The fight between Pacquiao and Sawaingam lasted only 02:46. The Filipino fighter dominated his Thai opponent from the first bell. Sawaingam was knocked down four times before the referee stopped the fight, making it a technical knockout (TKO) victory for Pacquiao.
This was Pacquiao's third successful defense of his IBF Super Bantamweight Title. His previous title defenses were against Agapito Sanchez and Jorge Eliecer Julio. Pacquiao's victory over Sawaingam improved his record to 35-2-1 (26 KOs) and solidified his position as one of the top boxers in the world.
Despite Pacquiao's dominance in the ring, the fight did not come without controversy. Sawaingam's camp claimed that the referee stopped the fight prematurely, and they demanded a rematch. However, their request was denied, and Pacquiao moved on to defend his title against Fahprakorb Rakkiatgym in his next fight.
