On October 6th, 2007, the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas played host to the highly anticipated rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera. The fight was promoted by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, and it was for the WBC International Super Featherweight title, which was Pacquiao's fifth defense. The fight saw Pacquiao prevail over Barrera via a unanimous decision, with two judges scoring the bout 118-109 and the third scoring it 115-112.
The fight was a tactical battle, with Barrera opting for a more strategic approach to try and counter Pacquiao's aggression. Pacquiao, however, outboxed Barrera throughout the fight, and while Barrera managed to survive up to the final round, he was unable to secure the victory.
There were no knockdowns during the fight, but Barrera sustained a cut under his right eye due to a headbutt. Barrera was deducted a point in the eleventh round for hitting after the break, which only added to his already difficult situation.
Pacquiao's purse for the fight was $2 million, a testament to his standing as one of the biggest names in boxing at the time. Barrera, a seven-time world champion in three different weight classes, was one of the most respected fighters in the sport, but he was no match for Pacquiao on the night.
