Leo Santa Cruz vs Kiko Martinez

On Saturday 27th February 2016, the Honda Center in Anaheim, California played host to the WBA world featherweight title fight between Leo Santa Cruz and Kiko Martinez. This was an exciting match-up as Santa Cruz, the former super-bantamweight world champion was looking to defend his title against Martinez, a former world champion in his own right.

From the opening bell, Santa Cruz showed why he was the champion. He was quick and aggressive, using his superior footwork and hand speed to land precise punches on Martinez. However, Martinez was not to be outdone, as he showed his own fighting spirit by throwing some heavy punches of his own.

The first few rounds were closely contested, with both fighters landing some impressive shots. However, it was in the 5th round that Santa Cruz really turned up the heat. He unleashed a series of powerful combinations that left Martinez reeling. The referee had no choice but to stop the fight and declare Santa Cruz the winner by TKO.
