On August 10, 1985, two boxing greats clashed in the ring at the Riviera Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. Mexican fighter Jose Luis Ramirez, a two-time lightweight titleholder, defended his WBC World Lightweight Title against undefeated Puerto Rican Hector Camacho. The fight was a classic case of bull versus matador, with Camacho's elusive and fast movements pitted against Ramirez's power and aggression.

Camacho entered the fight with a perfect 26-0 record, having previously held the WBC 130-pound title. Despite not being known for his punching power, his speed and movement made him a dangerous opponent. Ramirez, on the other hand, was a feared knockout artist with a long professional career and a reputation for testing the best fighters of his generation.

The fight lived up to its billing as a clash of styles, with Camacho's superior footwork and quick hands allowing him to outmanoeuvre Ramirez throughout the 12-round bout. Despite Ramirez's best efforts, he struggled to connect with Camacho and was unable to land any significant blows. Camacho, meanwhile, was able to pepper Ramirez with jabs and combinations, controlling the pace of the fight.

In the end, the judges were unanimous in their decision, scoring the fight 119-109, 119-112, and 118-111 in favor of Camacho. With the victory, Camacho claimed the WBC World Lightweight Title, becoming the first Puerto Rican fighter to do so. The loss was a setback for Ramirez, who would continue to fight at a high level for many years but never again regain a world title.
